- The District Court at Prince Edward consisted of the counties of Buckingham, Charlotte, Halifax, Cumberland, and Prince Edward. Some records indicated the District Court may be known as the Superior Court for the district with the above mentioned counties. The District Court was abolished in 1808 and its function were assumed by a Superior Court of Law in each of the above listed counties. These order books continued after 1808 with entries for the Superior Court of Law for Prince Edward County. The Superior Court of Law was replaced in 1831 by the Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery
