- Summary
- Maxim Vengerov in a masterclass dedicated to one of Johann Sebastian Bach's most famous works. A gifted child, Maxim Vengerov gave his first recital at the age of five and won the first prize in the Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition at the age of ten. Considered today one of the most accomplished violinists of his time, he does not hesitate to share his talents for the benefit of education. Indeed, students of the London Royal Academy of Music describe him as an attentive professor and a musician as interesting as inspiring. This masterclass is a way to discover him performing the first two movements, an adagio and a fugue from Bach's Sonata No. 1 for Solo Violin. Composed in 1720, the Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin are an ensemble of six pieces including three sonatas, each composed of four movements alternating slow and fast tempos, and a fugue as a second movement. During the same period, Bach composed the famous Brandenburg Concertos, his Double concerto for violin and the Suites for solo cello. Yehudi Menuhin integrally recorded this work for the first time in the 1930's. It is almost an obligated step in a violinist's career to learn and play these sonatas and partitas. The Masterclass Media Foundation Archives offer to students and music lovers around the world filmed masterclasses, given by the best talents, on the greatest works of the classical repertoire. Their primary purpose is to provide a valuable educational resource in order to perpetuate passion and knowledge from one generation to another
