- Summary
- "One Tough German is the historical and genealogical study of German immigrant George Cress and several generations of his descendants. George came to Pennsylvania in the 1750s then disappears for the next 20 years. He emerges clearly from the murk of history in 1777 when he joins the York County Pennsylvania Militia after the British victory at the battle of Brandywine. His war experience is cut short when he is shot through the chest. Surviving this horrific wound, he later moved to Virginia where he lived for nearly 40 years. Many of his children migrated south along the Great Valley Road to destinations in Tennessee, southwest Virginia and eastern Kentucky. Many of his descendants served in the Civil War on different sides!"--
